Gokarna is a village in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. Gokarna means cow's ear in Sanskrit. Gokarna lies between the rivers Gangavali and Aghanashini.Gokarna is a Hindu pilgrimage centre and floods with devotees during Shiva Rathri.The Mahabaleshwar Temple dedicated to Hindu deity Lord Shiva is the largest temple in the town. Apart from Temples, Gokarna is also famous for beaches. The major beacehs in Gokarna are Kudle beach , Half-moon beach , Paradise beach and Om beach. Kudle beach is the nearest. Om beach gets its name from the shape of the Hindu sacred word 'Om'.
